As far as your ‘energy theory’ about ‘witness’ is concerned you are right that the witness cannot see, hear or know itself because you know this first and it can be experienced by the form of energy which do not know anything,
So Mystics all around the world have written about it. Zarathustra experienced celebration, Heraclitus experienced as contradiction, Lao Tzu described it as The Law through his experience, Jesus as kingdom of God, Krishna as Aatma, Buddha as No-thing without knowing about your energy theory because they experienced it first.
It means there is another way and quite contradictory way ( as per Heraclitus ) through which it can be experienced first and then only something can be said about it in more better way. That experience happens through eyes, the person who experiences start listening ringing sound of the universe - called as ॐ Omkar.
Awareness meditation helped me in my journey to reach to similar conclusion through personally experiencing it and that moment of first experience is called as Philosia moment in life. Living simple, authentic and working without keeping its result in return is a surrendering to god that helps your meditation to become intense.
