How can the mind be known? Ancient sutras for Ideas | Philosia: The Art of seeing all
An Ancient process of ideation is described by Osho in two discourses, coupled with two meditations, as given in Pune on 3rd and 4th September, 1965.
These sutras can rain nectar in our lives, provided we can experiment in our lives the suggestions mentioned in this post. The spiritual journey in my life started by reading a book of Vivekananda’s on ‘Man’s Mind’. That helped me to know more and I bought a complete set of 10 volumes of Vivekananda with my first earnings. Then in the riots of December 6,1992 due to Babri Masjid deterioration, I had to stay at home in Bombay for five days, so I read a lot of it within few days. At that time, I could understood only a few things. And the rest understand I could understand now only, but it is definitely true that reading and studying have always been an effective method.
First discourse, 03 September 1965, Pune, philosophy of truth (ref: Amrit Varsha, Osho’s book in Hindi)
Knowing mind is in itself an ultimate idea.
My dear soul!
I would like to start my discussion with a short story.
There was a huge crowd at the entrance of the palace in a large capital. The crowd started starting from morning and was increasing. Whoever came had stayed and had not returned. I also wandered to that capital. And I also stood in that crowd. Something very strange happened that day. So people from all over the city were coming running towards the same palace. It was not such a strange thing. In the morning, a beggar came and asked for alms at that door. Every morning beggars ask for alms at the door, any day has not come when there are no beggars. So it wasn’t a very strange thing. But the beggar not only asked for alms, spread his alms bowl before the king, but also made a condition. The beggar had no condition, it was a matter of surprise. If the king has set a condition, then it’s okay. The taker also made a condition, it was certainly a matter of surprise. And the condition was also very unique.
It was very simple to see. And the king had agreed to that condition. But it was getting very difficult to complete.
The beggar had said that I would take alms on one condition, and that condition is that my alms bowl should be filled in full. I will not return with an incomplete vessel.
The king’s laughed with arrogance. And the king said you are crazy?
Maybe you don’t know at whose door you are asking for alms?
Even if you yourself want to return with an incomplete vessel, I will not let you return with an incomplete vessel full. There is nothing to be conditioned about. And he told his viziers that now it will not be good to fill its container with grain, fill it with gold coins.
The beggar again said: Think once because other kings in the past were also in trouble. This condition was not placed for the first time and I have also been placed on the other king’s doors, and till date no door has been able to fill my container completely.
The king laughed, he did not feel the need to pay attention to the matter, and asked the vizier to go and fill the pot with golden ashrafis. The wazir brought the golden ashrafis, he put them in the vessel, it was a small vessel, but a very amazing incident happened, as soon as they fell into the vessel, those ashrafies did not know where they disappear! The pot remained empty.
And then the crowd started to gather at that door. I also stood in that crowd. It was afternoon, the little monk’s vessel could not be filled with the king’s very large vessel. Evening began, the emperor’s coffers became empty, but the monk’s vessel was not full, not full. And then the emperor who had never lost to anyone, fell at that beggar and fell at his feet and asked for forgiveness that I have made a mistake, I ask for forgiveness; and today I saw a great truth that even the property of the emperor cannot satisfy the hunger of a bagger. Forgive me, I won’t be able to fill your container to full.
The crowd dispersed, the king was defeated, the people went home after talking in various ways. And that beggar also went on his way. But I decided to not leave the bagger easily, so followed him.
At night I caught him outside the village and asked him, ‘ what is the secret of this alms bowl, which could not be filled?’
The beggar started laughing and he said: I have been to the village, and I do not know how many egos have been defeated at how many gates, but you are the first man who came after me and ask the secret of this vessel of begging. I was looking for this man that someone asks me, and only for that I am going from village to village. But no one asks. There is no secret in this vessel for receiving alms. And he gave the vessel in my hand and he said: I used to come out of a cave and one day I found a man’s skull lying, from which I have made this vessel. And as everyone knows, man’s heart is never full, so it does not fill the vessel either.
With this story, I want to start my talk that the thing to understand among the biggest mysteries in life is that the human mind is never able to be filled. Man’s suffering, and anxiety, and sorrow, and melancholy, arise from this fact. We are trying to fill the mind that is naturally incapable of filling. But hardly anyone can unveils this fact. And whoever unveils this fact, a revolution takes place in his life. But in general, hardly this thing begins to appear in our vision, we try to fill the mind, in many directions, with money and fame, and position, we try to fill it by walking in some unknown paths of ambitions. And even seeing this well, that we may remain blind that no one has been able to fill their mind till date.
Has any man in the entire history of mankind shown the courage to say that my heart is full, my mind is satisfied?
Has anyone said in the long ten thousand years of history that I have reached the fulfillment of the mind?
Have the aspirations of the mind been satisfied?
No, not a single person looks like that. And the life story of every remaining man tells of the constant non fulfilment of man.
If you see the truth that this mind cannot be filled, then I assure you, the moment your race to fill will end and the moment your race is over, you will find that you are always full. The moment you release your urge to fill it from this mind, the moment you will find that there is someone behind the mind who is constantly full, which is never empty. The name of that truth is the soul.
There is a race to fill the mind, and in this race to fill we cannot see the soul. There is a demented race to fill the mind, and because we are busy in this race, we are not able to get who we are. Without being free from this race, one does not have self-reason. But to get rid of this race, no effort, no positive effort, no right effort, no sadhana can give result. Whatever else we do to be free from this mind, it will also be an effort to fill the mind itself. To be free from this mind, it is necessary to know this mind. It is important to be fully aware of this. It is important to look at the entire situation. And the day when it is seen that the mind is a bottomless pit, an abyss, in which nothing can be filled. The day when this abyss comes into the clear vision of the mind, on that day man moves towards a different realm… in another dimension, in another direction. Where nothing is ever empty, where everything is full. The name of that direction is God. And there are only two directions, one is the direction to fill the mind, which is unsuccessful, which is continuous failure, which is futile and the final result of which there can be nothing else available except empty hands.
How can this mind be known?
I will talk to you in this direction in these two days.
First of all, we all want to avoid knowing the mind. It is far from a matter of knowing that we want to steal our eyes from this mind so that we do not meet it. No one is ready to see the face. No man/woman dares to look at himself/herself as he/she is.
We are running away from ourselves and by running away we keep asking whoever we meet on the way, is there any way to self-enlightenment?
They are running away from themselves and want to be available to self-enlightenment!
Both of these things are very stupid. These two things are so contradictory that there can be no opposition bigger than this and no bigger contradiction than this .
Ask yourself somewhere, am I not running away from myself?
We are all running away. We have invented many ways to escape. No man wants to be face to face with themself. They keep stealing from their own eyes. And the solution they take to steal their eye is that what they are not, they understands themselves as they are. The violent person considers himself non-violent. An irreligious person considers himself religious, so that what is irreligious is not seen. They should not come face to face. They find cheap tricks. An irreligious person wakes up every morning and goes to the temple so that they can see that I am religious. The violent person starts drinking water by filtering, so that they starts to see that I am non-violent. The person full of sexuality takes the vow of celibacy, so that they will start to see that I am free from work and sex. We put clothes on ourselves against what we are. We cover ourselves with the opposite appearance of what we are, the masks that are exactly the opposite of what we are, we cover ourselves with the clothes so that original of us is not visible. This way we hide in the eyes of others, but we also hide in our own eyes. One is cheating, not with the other but with ourself. We can see the deceptions of others, but we do not see what we are deceiving ourselves.
Story: I have heard that both a mother and daughter in a house had a disease of waking up and walking at night. One night the mother woke up and went to the garden behind her house. It would be midnight, just after him her daughter also got up and went to the garden.
As soon as the mother saw the girl, she said: She was asleep, as soon as she saw the girl, her mind was filled with anger and jealousy. And she said that because of this evil one, all my youth was destroyed, this one has taken away all my youth, I feel like pressing his neck. (She is not identifying her as her daughter in sleep.)
And the girl, as soon as she saw the old woman, she said: She was also asleep, that because of this old woman, my life has become a hardship and a prison, this has become an obstacle in my every joy, God, may all the thorns in my path be removed. But both of these persons were somewhere in sleep. Because when you wake up, no one says the truth. Then due to rooster’s crowing both of them woke up. And that girl woke up and saw her mother and said: Mother, this winter you left outside and the shawl inside, what if it gets cold? And the mother said: Daughter, you woke up so early, go back to sleep, it’s still two hours. Then she wakes up early, so she feels tired throughout the day. They put their hands around each other’s necks and returned home and fell asleep.
What they said in sleep and what they said awake, there is a difference between the two.
But what is the truth? The one who woke up and said or the one who said in sleep?
There was no reason to lie in sleep, there are reasons to lie in waking up, because in waking up all the thoughts have come that what is right to say, and what is not?
And when they woke up, and the very thought of who is the mother and who is the daughter? So it’s all polite to wake up. And in waking, all the things came to mind, and what was born from those things that came to mind is false, that is acting. The truth was revealed in sleep!
Any person’s truths are more open in their dreams than in their waking. And if a man gets drunk, then more than what happens is true. He was the same man who was swearing before god, the same man who was singing hymns. He seems to be intoxicated while swearing before god.
Can there be any power in drunkenness to create abuse inside?
No, but there were insults and abuses inside, the hymns were just cover. And the intoxication took away all the cover of understanding, what was inside began to come out. We are awake during the day, we are asleep at night. The truths that were in the dream have been lost.
If you search a little within yourself, you will be very scared. The people should not know all that is hidden inside me, and it does not get revealed, and no one should look into it. Therefore, we keep building walls after wall of what is hidden within us so that no one will find out about it. So that it remains hidden, so that no one peeks into it, even our closest friend is not close enough to us so that we let him look inside us.
And then gradually with fear and dread we also stop looking inside ourselves. And then we ask, how to be self-knowledge? How do we get the truth? How come we see the Lord’s vision?
The one who is not willing to see himself, what other truth can they aspire to see?
Or how much truth can there be in their aspiration? How much enthusiasm can there be?
Whatever anger, violence and jealousy are there in a human mind, it is necessary to face or confront them. It is necessary to remove all the masks with which our face is covered. It is necessary to stand in front of the naked mind. This is the first thing that we should stop avoiding ourselves. If on any day we have to go into the depths of life, and any day we have to know the meaning of life then we have to stop fleeing from ourselves. If on any day we have to experience the hidden beauty and joy in life, we have to stop running away from ourselves. And you have to expose the originality face hidden behind masks no matter how painful it is, no matter how annoying it is, and no matter how much comfort we are taken away, and our satisfaction is lost. But this thing has to be seen, without seeing it, no path has ever gone to the truth and cannot go.
This is the first thing (first formula) that we should stop running away from ourselves. And we are running away from ourselves, looking for new ways, and this running away from yourself can be so intense, this pain can be so deep that we somehow want to not only run away from ourselves, but also forget ourselves with pain. After running away, the limit of forgetting comes. The man who keeps running away from himself in panic, in the end he comes to know that no matter how much I run, I come back and forth and see some things. You have to meet yourself again and again. So there is need of forgetting ourselves.
How can anyone escape from themselves? If someone rans away from something else, then they could have run away?
If I run away to the jungle, you will all be left behind, but I will reach there with me. Wherever I run, I will be with myself, so the excess of running away one day leads to the conclusion that running away will not work, it is necessary to forget. Then the talk of finding a thousand kinds of drugs begins. Some man wants to forget himself by drinking alcohol, some man wants to forget in music, some man wants to forget himself in sex. There are some good people, they do not like to do this kind of intoxication, so they have invented the intoxication of good men, someone forgets himself by chanting Ram-Ram, someone goes to the temple and sings Bhajan-Kirtan, dances and wants to forget. Someone reads Gita, Quran and Bible and wants to forget himself in them. But whether the intoxicants are good or bad, their work is the same, that somehow we forget ourselves, we do not have to remember what we are. Close the door, which we are. There is a lot of relief. As soon as one is able to forget oneself, there is a lot of relief.
In Europe and America, they’re inventing new inventions, finding new drugs-mescaline, LSD, and more. This search has been going on since a very old day, from the sages of the Vedas to today, from Somaras to LSD, the same search is going on that how to forget yourself?
Drink and forget about yourself. It feels good to forget because it feels bad to know yourself. The one who is facing the pain, the stinging, the sense of duality, is the pain of knowing himself that what am I?
The longer we forget ourselves, we become God because one forgot all the darkness. All became light, all those wounds were forgotten, all became healthy. All those pains have been forgotten, worries have been forgotten, everything has become quiet and music, but how long can one forget oneself?
And by forgetting is there a revolution or a change is going to happen?
There is no way to forget. Stopping running from ourselves can be a way, not forgetting can be a way. What is the interest of forgetting?
What is the relief of going to sleep?
By going to sleep, that thing will remain inside, it will not be visible, but how long will you sleep?
Will the sleep end the challenges we wanted to escape from?
Will self-forgetfulness get rid of life’s anxiety?
Can self-forgetfulness become liberation?
No, not at all, never, but the longer we spend in forgetfulness, the more life becomes useless, the more opportunities are lost, in which we could have known ourselves and perhaps we may have learned to change. We have already lost so many opportunities with our hands ( In past lives). So much opportunity is wasted in our hands (in this life too).
As much strength and ability that we put in forgetting ourselves, I wish we had put it in waking ourselves up, then life could have been more blissful. Life could have been something else. It could have been something else.
But we have put ourselves in forgetting, a man has a boil in his leg and he gets drunk and forgets. A man has a headache, and he sleeps after taking opium. And let there be worry, pain, trouble in a man’s life and he keeps reciting verses and forgets.
Does it bring relief for any pain, any sorrow, any disease?
If not, then how will it end?
Its end can be by its manifestation, can be by its comparison, can be by knowing it can be by it by knowing clearly to it, it can be by recognising it. There is no relief from the anxiety and sorrow of human life except knowledge. But we are probably afraid of knowledge, because the first step of knowledge is to know ourselves. And the meaning of knowing yourself is not to know the soul, the meaning of knowing yourself is not knowing God, the first and direct meaning of knowing yourself is to know your conscience, your mind. If the mind becomes calm, ends, the mind disappears, then what will be known is the soul. While the mind is immersed in this race and aspiration of the mind, there can be no acquaintance with it.
As if there is a storm in the sea and the entire chest of the sea is full of waves, then it is impossible to see and know the sea submerged in those waves, the peace of that ocean, the unfathomable depth of that sea. Yes, if the waves calm down, the sea will come out, calm and deep and unfathomable. But in the storm of waves, there can be no vision of it. There is a storm of mind, there is a storm of thought, there is a storm of anxiety, there are many waves. So there can be no meeting with the ocean of soul hidden under those waves.
You have to know these waves, by knowing these waves, only when they merge can one feel the ocean hidden behind. So the first step is very negative, and that is to stop running away from ourselves. But first let’s understand that we are running away from ourselves; usually we understand the opposite: Where have I been running away from myself?
But we are running away. This fact can be seen not by me saying, but by searching within yourself, in your life. (My comment: We are doing a job, so there has to be a next promotion due, for that, whatever we are doing is running. Because most of those who died after retiring from the highest positions remained empty within. That is, either leave the job or start taking deliberate baby steps towards promotion in self-knowledge. If we are doing business or feeelancing, so do not expand further but instead hand over that responsibility to your children or someone else. And devote time in expanding yourself towards self-knowledge. It means to stop the growth in the material world and take steps towards spiritual expansion instead of it)
The second step (second formula) is negative:-
If someone pulls away all our clothes in our sleep at night, all the sheets of our personality, and in the morning we find that the position, the name & fame, the prestige, all that the newspapers said for us and all that the neighbours used to say to us, everything has been taken away. And we don’t have anything. The boards we had in front of the house, the certificate we had, we didn’t have anything. (It is something that happens at the time of death) in that naked state we will not be able to recognise ourselves. We don’t know ourselves, other people know us, that’s how we start recognising ourselves.
Someone tells you, you are a very good man, and a thought becomes within you that you are a very good man. And someone says that you are a very bad man, then you get hurt because the first man filled in you with the impression of a good man, it is taking away that perception and you will be empty again. And then there will be no perception inside. ( The hurt we feel is due to it is difficult to live without perception as if I am nothing?).
Twenty-four hours we are engaged in erecting an image, an idol in relation to ourselves. And we also get the image created in which someone becomes something, the other becomes something else, but inside, inside we remain unfamiliar with ourselves. And this image has to be changed every day, because people around change every day.
Napoleon was defeated and locked up on the island of Saint Helena. The great conqueror was locked up like a prisoner. But the enemies were benear. There were no handcuffs in his hand. He was free to walk on the island. But there was no way to escape from the island. He went for a walk early in the morning. And the enemies were also committed to the fact that his doctor was also left with him. The doctor and he both went out for a walk, early in the morning. A woman used to carry her bundle of hay on a small hilly path from that side on a path. Napoleon’s doctor suddenly screamed and said, Hey! Leave the path empty, can you not see Napoleon is coming. But Napoleon said to the doctor: My friend, the image, which was mine until yesterday, was destroyed. You are mistaken, there is no Napoleon now, I am an ordinary prisoner. You are carrying the same image, which was mine till yesterday, it broke. I must get out of the way and Napoleon got out of the way. And he said, Gone are the days when I told the mountain to turn away, and the mountains were moved. Today I should leave for a woman going with hey on her head.
This Napoleon must have been a very wise man. He could understand that he had made that image, it has been broken in so many days. We are all making our own images. It may not even be broken until death, but what difference does it make? If we know only our image, and that image is false, because it is made by us. And if we accept that image as I am, then we will never be able to know what is my reality or original face. The one who is entangled with the self made or society made image will never know the soul. Let this image be broken by death before us, or let a great defeat happen like that which break the statue of Napoleon. But the man who thinks wisely he himself breaks this statue and enters in spiritual journey, the same man is the seeker, who breaks the image himself that is made by his hand and enters inside.
How can he enter? I will discuss it with you tomorrow morning, today I had only to say that we have erected a false image about ourselves. Why we have created a false image? There is a reason, there is a reason, so we have created it. To fill the lack of self-knowledge, we have made a false image and have accepted that as ‘I am’.
Within this image is the completely opposite state of our mind. We have stuck flowers on top, inside is full of stench. We have made the light up, the inside is full of darkness. And we are afraid of that darkness so that we do not know about it. Because to discover it will be the murder of this image. This image will be broken if we get to know about our reality. But you have to go through this path, through the way of breaking that self created image, otherwise one cannot go deeper and deeper inside. Then one goes around on his own but cannot enter within.
In our own images, in our own false form, we have made our own graves, within which we have become safe.
Security is death. And this death creates uneasiness and panic. There is a desire to get out of this security. There is an aspiration for freedom, there is anxiety, there is unrest, then we ask how can we become calm? How can we be free?
We have unbridled, we have built chains, we have built walls, we have erected graves and we are asking in the whole world that how can we become free? Who will free you?
Some Tirthankar, some incarnated, some Buddha, some guru will free us?
No one can free another. You are building your walls, and shouting that we have to be free. Please. Know that you are your own unbridledness. And the day you see that your protection has become your bondage and prison, your own idol erected in your own protection has become our death, on that day it will be a momentary task to break this statue. You make it, so it is. The day you don’t make it, the same day it merges. It has no power and power of its own.
Immutation/jail/bondage is a person’s own creation, and the day they stop creating it, the moment they become free. And for the one who is free, there is no sorrow, no pain, for them the doors of eternal bliss, of the nectar, are opened. And in that joy, the one recognises that they themselves is God, then only God remains everywhere. As long as we are locked in our prison, there is no God within us and the day we break our prison and become free, on that day the same is inside and outside everywhere, only the one is all around, only the God is. Blessed is the one who knows it, they become grateful. The one who remains unfamiliar with self, his life is a story of sorrow, their life is actually a long death, their life is a dark night, there is nothing like life, celebration, joy in their life.
Osho was against all traditions.

The second discourse — the music of zero
My dear soul!
I would like to start my talk today with a small incident.
One night I got a chance to stay in a mountain inn. A very strange incident happened that night. That incident is remembered every day, because every day such people who meet me gives a hint of that incident.
That night, as soon as I went to that hilly inn, a very poignant voice was heard throughout the valley of the hill. Someone was calling something in a very painful voice. But as i got closer, it was discovered that it was not a man, it was the parrot of the owner of the inn. That parrot was locked in its cages, and loudly screaming freedom! Freedom! There was a big pain in its voice, as if it was coming from the heart. As if it’s soul is thirsty of freedom, and it’s soul locked in that cage is like squirming to be free.
In that parrot’s voice I saw as if every man was locked in a cage, thirsty for liberation and screaming. The parrot seemed to have great sympathy, but only in the morning I found out that a big mistake had been made. It kept screaming. The owner of the inn fell asleep, and the other guests of the inn also fell asleep, so I woke up, opened the cage of the parrot and wanted to free the parrot. I would pull that parrot out and the parrot would catch the snaggles inside and scream, freedom! Freedom! I barely pulled the parrot out of the cage, in pulling from this cage, it also hurt my hand. I was reassured only after taking it out of the cage. And I thought that I have helped a soul become free. I went to sleep, but at five in the morning when I woke up I saw the parrot sitting back in its cage and shouting — freedom! Freedom!
Then I was very surprised. Then I realized that this thirst for freedom is not rising from the heart of the parrot, it is a taught or trained thirst. This voice is taught by its owner, the same owner who has locked it in a cage. And this parrot is also holding the cage, does not even want to leave, and also gives the voice of freedom. Then that thing should have been forgotten, because that event happened a long time before. But every day I find such men who shout: I want freedom, I want liberation, I want God. And when I look at them closely, I find that they are holding their cages, and if you try to get them out, they also attack like parrots, they get angry. And if someone forcibly takes them out, then they cannot even be outside, after a while they are seen inside (in the cage of their owner/mind).
Those who want to be free are the ones who are making their cages with their own hands, building their own chains with their own hands. I see those who want to fly in the sky of liberation locked in temples built by men. Those who wish for salvation, I see them closed in the books made by man (their masters). I see those who cry out for their thirst for freedom that they have bound themselves in thousands of monarchies. Then there is a lot of surprise, and I remember that parrot.
The parrot was worthy of mercy, but what to do for these men?
The parrot was still a parrot, and was repeating the things that were taught, but isn’t man also repeating the things that are taught?
Isn’t this thirst for God and the search for truth and this desire for liberation, these are also taught lessons somewhere?
Because if these taught lessons were not there, then how could this amazing event have happened that the man who wants to be free creates their own chains with own hand?
On one side you shout that you want the sky of liberation, and on the other side you make a cage and make a prison. How could this be possible by one man?
But this amazing event is happening in all of our lives. Perhaps the reason may be that the things we are considering as the path to freedom become cages and we do not know it. Perhaps the things that we consider as the ladder of liberation become the door to take us away from freedom and we do not realise it. I have to talk a little bit about this today. Perhaps by making some gestures in that direction, we will see our soveres and prisons. And the big secret thing is that when they are seen, they become free from them. They don’t have to do anything else.
One night a very strange incident happened. It was at an inn in the most deserted place of the desert. The convoy came and stopped and moved on. That night also a large convoy came and stayed there. The owners of that convoy took out the goods from their camels and tied their camels, but in the end they found out that they had a hundred camels, but one peg fell in the way of a camel. Ninety-nine camels were tied, but one camel remained untied. It could not be left untied on that deserted path in the dark night, it had to be tied up. The owners went inside the inn and asked the old man of the inn if a rope and a peg could be found?
A camel is left untied to us, and it is not good to leave the untied camel in the dark night.
The keeper, an old man, of the old inn said: The rope and the peg are not here, but go and tie the rope and tie the camel.
They laughed and said, If we had a peg and a rope, we would not have asked you. It’s not the same, how to tie the camel?
So the old man said: Put a false peg and tie a false rope. The camel will know in the dark that the peg was driven and the rope was tied, the camel will sleep.
They didn’t believe it, he said, “We don’t believe it.
The old man laughed, he said, you are crazy, even a human being can be tied to false pegs. Go try.
There was compulsion, there was no peg, and it was necessary to use the words of that old man. The owner of the convoy went and he drove a false peg for the first time in his life. He was driving with great surprise, there was no peg, but he was making a sound as if the peg was there. The camel sat down after hearing the sound of the peg, the owner was surprised, the camel is agreeing. The owner tied a rope that was not there, and put the hand on the camel’s neck, as they always twisted when tying the rope. The camel tied up, so the camel fell asleep. The owner also went to his place and slept, and was surprised that the old man was very experienced, and had great knowledge about camels.
Early in the morning the convoy began to move, the pegs of ninety-nine camels were uprooted and the ropes were pulled out, but there was no peg on the hundredth camel, no rope and no peg. So there was no need to take out peg and untie the rope,
That hundredth camel was pushed and tried to get up, but the camel refused to get up. It was bound (by fake peg through fake rope in the night). How did it get up?
The owner of the convoy was panicked whether this old guard had done any magic. The doubt had also happened at night, they went to that old man and asked, what have you done to the camel? The camel does not rise.
The old man said: Madmen, first take out the peg and untie the rope.
So the owner of that camel said: But there is no peg, and no rope, then how can we open it?
The old guard said: Just same way as the invisible peg at night was driven , it has to be taken out and the same way the invisible rope was tied at night, it has to be opened in the same way. The peg is stuck for the camel and the rope is tied for the camel.
The peg had to be removed, which was not, and the rope, which did not exist, had to be removed. As soon as the rope was opened, the peg was pulled out, the camel got up and stood up.
The old man laughed and said: The need for pegs is not much, false pegs also work. And remember, true pegs never bind as hard as false pegs. Why? Because it becomes difficult to remove them, because they are not. ( Our ego is also something similar to the kind of garment/mask/image that we keep wearing, so it is more difficult to remove it. And we are tied to it in the same way that camel was tied. Meditation helps us to uproot those false pegs. Because even in meditation we do anything! )
The bonds that are on man are also like that of hundredth camel. If they really were, they would have been something. Their existence is very imaginary, so much of the mind. Just seeing them is enough to get rid of them.
So on that side I have to say these few things to you today, so that those bonds can be seen which are not really there, but still bind us. So that the cages and the prisons in which we have imprisoned our own souls may be seen, and the freedom for which we are crying out is experienced. And for that we are looking for gurus, and doing satsangs, and fasting, and standing on heads, and taking many other measures. To break free from the shackles that are created by ourselves and which are completely imaginary no one else is needed.
What are the bonds that transform the mind into a slavery and turn the mind into a sorrow and anxiety?
And the mind becomes like a dark night where there is no journey left except collision, injury and falling into pits.
What are those bonds and how can we wake up from them?
And how can you experience the fullness of life, the joy of life, the joy of life, and the truth?
The thing that has laid a huge basis for the human mind to wander in darkness, in ignorance, on forgotten paths is our superstition, our blindness is our faith. This word has become very much strong in us because of thousands of years of worship. But there is no word more poisonous than this, more toxic than this. Faith or belief have made man’s life a dark prison. Because the very basic meaning of that word persuades man to go blind. (Like the canal in dark when it cannot see the false peg and rope). And the man who becomes blind then they can believe in any pegs. Because if they could open their eyes, it could be seen that the pegs were false. That camel was deceived that night, maybe if it was the day, it would not have been deceived. The night was dark, the false peg was going, the camel could not see it. The trick to create night in man’s life has been invented. If a man’s eye (in the name of reverence/faith) is closed, then it becomes night. Then in that dark night, any bonds can be put up in those closed eyes.
Beliefs have blindfolded man’s eyes. Faith means accepting things we don’t know. which our souls have not experienced. The ones that our lives didn’t touch. We grasp those words and theories, as if we knew them, and then this block our inner journey and the end of our search within.
From childhood, this belief will be put in the mind: there is God, there is salvation, there is hell, there is heaven. And this thing will also be taught: never doubt. The man who doubts goes astray. When the truth is that the one who doubts will one day reach the truth. The one who does not doubt has no way to reach the truth. But the one who believes always teaches, do not doubt, do not doubt, believe; do not bring the slightest doubt, just believe.
How foolish it is that no matter how much a man believes, can believing end the doubt within him?
Can forced trust end the doubt within?
Doubt will remain within. We keep covering the faith from above, but as long as the consciousness is awakened within, it will say, I do not know this, it can be right, it can also be wrong.
Let’s get rid of this doubt. The lesson of faith is to crush doubt, take its life, press its neck, do not let its voice come out and this way you save the faith. If such a person who has been able to kill their inner doubt, then they should understand that they has not committed suicide of doubt, but their own suicide, because then their blindness became permanent, which cannot be cured.
But no one is ever able to completely kill the doubt within. Faith is imposed from above, doubt remains inside. And to suppress this doubt and strengthen the belief, one has to make a thousand attempts. Thousands of measures have to be taken so that the inner doubt does not wake up again. All religions have been doing this, when the situation will be completely opposite to that of the seeker of truth. It will be that the seeker develops their doubts completely, develops their doubts properly, systematically. Proper doubt, right doubt is the primary point of the journey. One should doubt properly, understands the science of doubt, understands the full power of doubt and is curious with all their life, ask, doubt. And if they continues to doubt properly and completely, and does not compromise in this doubt anywhere, then one day this search for doubt will bring them on those paths, this continuous search for doubt will bring him to those facts, which cannot be doubted.
The search for doubt is the path to the unmistakeable facts, and then, there is no doubt within, and the light of one truth pervades all souls. In other words, I would say that a man who begins with faith dies of doubt. And the man who starts with doubt reaches a place in their life where there is no room for doubt.
Only the one who travels by doubt can reach the truth exactly; the one who travels by faith will stray in the darkness. Because faith has already closed their eyes, they have already lost the ability to see, they have already ended the urge to search. Now they are like dead corpses, what can be found from them who are living like a dead man?
The first bondage is worth reflecting on man and that is of faith. The believer also believes and the atheist also. The atheist believes, there is no God, there is no soul, there is no salvation; their faith is negative. The believer’s faith is positive, but bith are believing so both are blind. No one has the right to say that God does not exist until one has known. No one has the right to think and believe that God exists until they have recognised within. So the rightly religious person is the one who rejects both “yes” and “no” and confesses the discovery. Who says I don’t know but I want to know. Who does not say that I know that God is, who does not even say that I know that God does not exist. Such a man who falls into such insistent blindness, his search stopped there, ended there. The mind that searches, the mind that inquires will be open, free. So such kind will say, I do not know, but I want to know. I have not known, but my soul is eager to know, the truth is unknown to me, so how can I tell what is and what is not? This is all I can say for sure now that I am in ignorance. (This is biggest declaration by anyone!)
The first identification of a religious person is that the one will not be a believer or an atheist. The one will not be a Hindu or a Muslim. The religious people will be eager for the unknown, will be inquisitive, will be curious, and will be honest with their ignorance.
In the Middle Ages, the sages of Europe kept thinking about how many angels could stand on the tip of a needle?
A wise man like Luther wrote that flies were made by the devil. Why?
Because when Luther read the scriptures, flies used to come and sit on his nose. It is clear that flies were created to interfere with the work of religion; so God cannot make it, Satan created it.
There was a dispute about who made the flies. God has created or the Satan?
Maps of heaven and hell kept on being made and there was a dispute over them that which map is right?
Is the map of Jains okay? Is that the map of Hindus is fine?
How far is heaven from the ground? How many levels? How many miles? Whose account is right?
What is the length of the gods? How old is it?
There has been a debate on this. And the people who are in dispute have been saying these things so seriously, so seriously that the common people have come to know that very important things are being thought of in life.
(Osho said a long story it is in short: In the inspection of the school, the inspector asked a question that if an airplane flies from Delhi towards Calcutta at a speed of a hundred miles per hour, then can you tell me, how old I am? A boy said forty-four years, because half of the absurd question is that my elder brother who is half crazy does it and he is twenty-two years old)
And then from these things, from these thoughts, the results that have been drawn, like that boy in story got the result of that inspector as of the age forty-five years.
The common man has been told to believe the results derived from them. We have searched, you believe; we have found out, you believe; your task is to believe.
Surely all these people must have suffered from some very deep ego, some very deep egoism who have said this, “we have found and you believe me”. We are the seekers, we are the ones who tell, you are the believers.
There is no one in the world who believes. Every human being who wants to know God, wants to know the truth, not going to believe, but has to be a seeker themselves . No other man can tell. Because every person who tells the other and the one who accepts the other’s opinion, becomes a partner in making all other people blind. When you need to open your own eyes to search within. So the first thing I want to tell you is to look at your beliefs with a very open eyes, then you will know that beliefs are false and learned, doubt is true and untrained. Doubt is by default within you, doubt is in your souls, it is the strength of your soul. Doubt is your power. And faith, faith is absolutely borrowed and forced, your journey cannot be with these borrowed beliefs.
The power of your soul is doubt, and no one ever teaches anyone to doubt. Doubt is born with birth, it is our default. Faith is taught. Trust is taken from others, doubt is mine. So if I doubt then this is my strength. This is my inquiry, this is my discovery, this is my exploration, this is my curiosity, this is my thirst. If I go with it, then maybe I can go into the depths of life, otherwise not. If I will take the words of others, so how can I get off into river of understanding?
And the first mistake is, and that is to agree to become blind, to close our eyes by faith. Do not agree, deny, the one who does not deny, that person is not alive. Deny all the influencers coming from all sides, who says believe and wants to suppress your inner curiosity, wants to close the inner soul. It is necessary to be aware of the influence of all around and a deep denial towards such attitudes, a complete denial should be clear within the mind that I will not get influenced by any influencer. Until that day I myself get to know the truth within. One who has curiosity within, such indomitable spirited, in whom there is thirst, they are definitely be able to know. This is the first thing.
First, remove the belief and second, give birth to the thought within.
But the second formula of thinking, the point of developing thinking or generating idea, is also worth thinking a lot. In the name of thinking, we do a very strange thing, we collect thoughts in the name of giving birth to the idea and think that the idea has been born within us. In the name of thinking, we collect thoughts.
In the name of the ability to develop our own idea or thinking, we gather a group of ideas and think that we have become thinker. There is a fundamental difference between thinking and the collection of thought. Rather, the truth is that the more a person is eager to collect ideas, the less the capacity of thinking is within them. They are trying to fill the lack of the same ability by collecting ideas like this of others. The power of ideating or thinking should be within us, not a collection of thoughts.
What does your brain do?
Information is filled in the mind, the brain starts answering. I asked you, your name, you immediately said, Ram.
Do you think you did this very thoughtful work?
You were filled from childhood that your name Ram, your name Ram, it got typed in your memory. This tape was recorded. A question came from outside, your name, Smriti said from inside, Ram. You think you’ve become a thinker. This work is done by the machine. There is no question of being a thinker in this. Thoughtfulness is not a collection of ideas.
Then what is thoughtfulness?
If thoughtfulness is not a collection of ideas, then what is thoughtfulness?
Thoughtfulness or ideating is being conscious of life, an awareness of life, a constant awakening of life. Because in life, events are happening to us from all around, shocks are happening, so the answers to the one who is instantly aware come from within.
Subhash Babu’s elder brother was Sharad Chandra. He was travelling by train. When he went to take a bath in the bathroom, evening time, it became dark. He took a bath, his precious wrist watch slipped out of his hand and fell down the track of the train. Immediately he pulled the chain, the train stopped, but by the time it came to halt, it was a distance of about a mile.
In the dark night, the driver, the conductor and the guard said: It is very difficult to find the wrist watch, and we don’t know where the watch is lying a mile back, how can it be found in this dark night?
Sharad Chandra said: No, there will be no difficulty, I have dropped the burning cigarette in my hand just behind it. So the watch should be about within a meter of where my cigarette was lying. And it is a burning cigarette, it will be easily visible even in the dark, you send a person to search it. And watch was found, it was lying a foot near the burning cigarette.
This man’s watch fell, and he could respond immediately, but if your costly wrist watch have fallen what would you do?
You may be shouting that hey my watch is gone, come out and tell others that my watch has fallen, pulling the chain. But by then the car had gone too far. This man gave proof of great ideation, thinking, thoughtfulness. It is an evidence of great awareness. The clock fell, an incident occurred, a problem arose, this man looked consciously and in a moment he saw that the clock could not be found, he has immediately dropped a burning cigarette behind it. It happened in an instant, and it didn’t happen with memory, because it was the first chance in life, there was no memory, no memory of it. It was not that he was dropping the clock every day, or he has not read in any book that if the clock fell, put a burning cigarette behind.
Now you can put but that will not be of prudence. This was the proof that the man was immediately awake. An incident has happened, the mind is fully aware. And the aware mind find the way. Thoughtfulness means: to be awake. It is not a collection of ideas. So pundit and ideating, thinking people are two different things. Pandit is often ingrained, he remembers a lot. But where life creates problems, pundit starts searching in his memory. There, the conscience does not give any direct answer in front of that pundit.
I heard that there was a very great Russian doctor. He was testing the final degree in medical science that children get in Russia.
He asked a young man, who had done all the tests, and the last one was having a oral test: There is this kind of patient and this is this medicine, how much will you give?
He answered something, and he went out. After opening the door, as he was going out, then he thought that by giving such a quantity to a child, it will act as a poison, that patient will die, the amount has become too much, he returned and said, sorry, I told a little more, I will give half.
The doctor said: Get out, the patient is dead. The question is not of a written test , this is a practical test, you have given the medicine, the patient is dead. Life will not stop for you that you came back again and started saying that you gave a little more quantity, will give a little less. The student failed.
His examiner said that the patient is dead, you go back, the matter is over. Life doesn’t stop.
If life doesn’t stop, what does it mean?
This means that we should be awake in the moment. When life is in front, there should be consciousness inside. The meaning of capable of generating the idea or thinking in the moment is to live very consciously. Not a collection of thoughts, but a constant mindful living. To live constantly awake is the meaning of that idea.
So the second formula: the mind should be constantly thoughtful, thinking. Not full of others ideas, but full of thoughtfulness.
How will this fill the mind with thoughtfulness?
For that, I want to tell you the third, the last formula. And it’s a big surprise, it’s probably going to be counter itself. The person who is the best in thinking is the one who has the least thoughts in the mind. The fewer thoughts there are in the mind, the more thoughtfulness there can be. And when thoughts are not at all, the mind becomes present in perfect thinking, becomes present. When the brain is completely thoughtless, when the mind is absolutely devoid of thought, only then is the thinking at its fullness. This will be the opposite, but there is no greater truth than this. When there is no wave of thought on the mind, the mind is most able to become aware. And then there is a direct response from life, then there is a direct relationship with life. Then life builds up one thing there, and here the mind is able to accept its challenge and respond (in action) in a whole, holistical, and solve its solution, and not in words from the mind.
Like a mirror, and if there is dust on top of the mirror, then the mirror is not able to reflect what is outside. If there is no dust, if anything comes in front of the mirror, the mirror will reflect it completely. When the mind is completely free from the dust of thought, it becomes a mirror and reflects and reflects life in full all-roundness.
And then a connection with the world outside of us, a bridge between the inside and the outside, a bridge, and only then do we come to know what totality is?
It is true in totality. Then we are no longer individuals, the circle of thoughts makes us persons and the state of thoughtless connects us to the non-person, it unites with what is hidden within everyone. And there we give him the name of truth, nectar, God or any other name, or the first experience of Parammukti or Moksha or liberation or ascension begins.
So this is the third formula: non-desideration. And thoughtlessness gives birth to the capacity of thinking, ideology, power of thinking, sense of totality and awareness. It is necessary to talk a little about this third formula. It is also the most important.
How can there be liberation from thought? How to attain thoughtlessness, calming down of all the waves of thoughts from the mind?
What can be the way?
What can be the direction?
What realm can there be where all thoughts are lost?
And a silence, and a silence, be present within. To solve this third formula, two small formulas have to be understood.
Everyone is completely asleep towards the mind. Second, the amount of thoughts will continue to run in the mind is in the same amount as the depth of their sleep.
Do you think that when you sleep at night, the whole night is filled with dreams?
And do you also know that those dreams seem to be true?
Have you ever come to know in a dream that what I am seeing is false?
Whatever you see in your dream is true. Such absurd things are also true, which you will wake up and say that was I crazy that I kept believing it to be true. This can’t happen. But in the dream, there is no doubt about it. Why?
Because in the dream you are completely asleep. The sleeping person is not aware of what is true and what is untrue, what is real, what is imaginary. In the same amount as sleep, then everything is true whatever is going on. All are true. And whatever is coming to mind seems to be fine.
But in the morning you wake up, and when you wake up start laughing that what all this went, what all this happened in the dream?
I went somewhere in my dream, and am lying at home. It was all a lie. It was all a fantasy.
How did you come to know that?
You were asleep, now you are awake. There is so much difference. And this difference made a fundamental difference. The dreams that seemed to be true began to be known as lies. But what we call awakening from sleep is also not the complete awakening. There is another awakening, there is an awakening above this too, and the day when that awakening is available to someone, the life that we thought was true in this awakening, the thoughts, the dreams, they also seem to be completely false. Then it is known that it was also a dream. It was no more than a dream. And since we were asleep, we knew it was true, there was no truth in it.
Why didn’t you come to know this thing when you were present in your dream?
There was a king in China, his only son, he was lying on his deathbed. The old king was near the boy who is close to death. Doctors have denied that it will not be possible that the boy will survive. He sat next to the boy all night. Two nights have passed, the third night has come, maybe his son will not see this morning. The light of the boy’s life seems to be extinguished. The king, the old king who is awoke for three days, fell asleep with his head on top of his bed. As soon as he slept, he saw a dream, he dreamed that he had become the emperor of the whole world. There was an emperor of a small kingdom, he saw in a dream that he became the king of the whole earth. The whole earth is under him. Chakraborty has become emperor. Twelve are his boys, very handsome, very young. His wives are very beautiful. Everything is beautiful, everything is pleasant, and only then the only dying son in front of which he was sleeping, died. There was crying in the palace. His wife beat her chest and shouted that her life got disturbed. When the sleep of the old king was broken, the whole kingdom, that dream, the kingdom of the whole earth, those twelve beautiful young sons, those beautiful queens, all of them ended. When he opened his eyes, he saw that the only son has died.
He started laughing. His wife was shocked. She said: The son has died and you are laughing!
He said, for which boys should I cry?
There were twelve other boys, they also passed away, and a great kingdom was taken away. I had very beautiful wives, they are no longer. Should I cry for them or for this one boy who has died?
And the fun is that when I fell asleep, neither this boy was meant for me, nor you, nor was this state. And there was another kingdom, and there were boys, and there were queens. Now that I have awakened, I know that it was not my kingdom, they are not my boys, they were not my queens. Now this is my son, and it’s you, and it is my small kingdom. And at night I’ll sleep again. And then I will wake up in another dream.
The king said: I am not able to understand for whom to cry?
That’s why I laughed, because this is the first time in life that I have the choice in front of me who to cry for?
To the boys who were very beautiful and twelve, to the kingdom which was very great. Or for this boy who was one, was alone, and for this little kingdom, and for you, for whom to cry?
There is another awakening, where we rise above the encircled net of thoughts of life. That awakening can be created. That awakening is created by the continuous or consistent process of awakening.
We never tried to wake up. Sometimes there comes a moment of sudden awakening or ‘aha’ moment. You go on the road, someone will suddenly come in front of you with a knife, in one moment an awakening will arise within you, in one moment you will wake up completely, as if all sleep has been broken, all thoughts will be gone, all dreams will be taken away, only one fact will stand in front of you and your consciousness will become a mirror — for a moment. Then the experience will end. Someone will die in the house, someone very loved, his death will cause a wound, and an awakening inside will result, one moment you will be frozen and then all will disappear. Sometimes in life there is an awakening in certain moments, but this awakening can be awakened within with constant practice of awareness. Walking, getting up, sitting, it can be created.
Let’s say a small incident, from which you will understand this.
A prince in Japan was sent to his guru’s or master’s house. He was sent to learn Jagran or awareness or living consciously. And the one to whom he was sent was a strange guru/master. He had put up a placard in front of his house that ‘here we teach how to wield a sword.’ Rajakumar/the Prince was very surprised.
He laughed at his father, to which guru/master has he sent him? The one who teaches how to use sword, what does this have to do with awakening?
He went in to meet the master. The guru/master said: You have come, well, but don’t be in hurry. What we teach cannot be learned quickly. And now we even don’t even tell you when we will start teaching, when the lesson will start. The master sad, the training will start when I get my will. The prince stayed, a few days passed, one day suddenly the guru/master came from behind and attacked him with a wooden sword. He was so stunned what was going on?
What kind of lesson is this going on?
He stood up in shock, and he bruised his head.
He said: What do you do, your mind is fine?
The Guru/master said: The lesson has begun. Now I will attack anytime, at any time. You have to be ready. You stay conscious. Any time you are eating and there may be an attack; you are reading a book, there may be an attack: you are taking a bath, there may be an attack. At any moment, now your training has started.
It was a very strange thing, and a very strange teaching. They started attacking ten to five times a day. The bones and ribs of the boy started hurting. He was a prince, he had never suffered such injuries. He don’t know when he is engaged in any works and there will be an attack from behind. But within a week, he experienced something new. A kind of caution began to develop within him. Within twenty-four hours, he started to be alert, started to be aware/cautious. The attack is going to happen, it can happen now, it can happen anytime, it can become an attack at any moment. After a month, he was surprised. A strong consciousness arose inside him. There was an attack, and with the attack, his hand would inadvertently rise, and he stops the attack. Now it was difficult to get hurt. As if the whole body, the whole consciousness started defending against the attack. He is working and there is an attack from behind and the hand will be raised and the attack will be stopped. This was the natural result of a month-long continuous caution.
Three months had passed, now for guru/master it was difficult to hurt the prince. No matter how at the moment of inattention, the whole body, the whole life was protected. After three months, the guru/master said: Now be careful even in sleep. You can also be attacked in sleep. It was even more difficult. If someone is wake up, it was fine. As when we are awake, but now there will be an attack in sleep!
And attacks began to occur in sleep. And the prince is sleeping and the guru/master will attack anytime two or four times a night. At first he had a lot of difficulty, then the injury started falling on the body. But the consciousness became deeper in a month. Even in sleep, a sense of what was present remains inside that ‘there might be an attack’.
Just like a mother sleeps, the baby just feel uneasy, people around the house don’t know, her hand goes to the child and persuades the child and puts him to sleep. Maybe the mother doesn’t even know. But there is a caution going on inside.
If we all are sleeping, and a man comes and says, Ram! Ram! All the people will be asleep. The one whose name is Ram, he will open his eyes and say, what’s the matter, who calls? The voice of Ram will be heard in everyone’s ears, but the rest is not careful about Ram, it belongs to that man. He is cautious towards Ram. So type of a consciousness works even in sleep.
After a month passed, even in sleep, protection from attack began. Even in sleep he would get up his hand, even in sleep he would defend, while sleeping. Three months had passed, six whole months had passed. Now a very strange thing had happened, the sense of the attack start in the prince even with the footsteps of the distant guru/master. The prince knows that the master is coming, while the master is far from attacking. A year has passed. It was hard to hurt the young man now.
One day sitting under the bush, he realized that this old man had hurt me a lot. I never thought about it. Today I will also try to attack it.The prince thought that the master is also careful or not? or only I am being made careful.
His guru was sitting far away, far under the tree, from there the guru said: Stop! Stop! I’m an old man, don’t attack! Just now he was sitting and thinking, he said: Stop! Stop!
The prince was very surprised! He said: I have only thought, where did the attack just now?
The Guru said: You have to just wait a few days, when your caution increases more, then the sounds of thought will also start to be heard, not the sound of footsteps. The thoughts are also a form of microwaves. The one who is so careful, he also wakes up to them.
He returned home fully aware. His guru never taught him to wield a sword. Returning back, his father said: What have you learned?
He said: A very strange thing, I learned to be careful, to be aware, but now I can fight any kind of swordsman, because before the swordsman thinks of where to attack, I will be protected. Now I am aware or cautious or careful. I did not learn to wield a sword, my guru/master was strange, he never told me to wield a sword.
He said, what will you do by holding a sword, what is the use of it?
The question is that if you are aware, then there can be no attack on you, your consciousness will defend yourself before the attack. You are always ready.
In life, if all of us start walking, getting up, sitting, sleeping carefully, fully aware, fully conscious of every small parts of whole act. then there is no need to go to any guru/master to learn how to wield a sword. If we start using caution/remaining conscious while sitting up. It is like always start being aware, like always start remembering this- ‘what am I doing?’
How do I get up?
How am I sitting?
How am I going?
Every step, every breath starts to move from our senses, we start to be aware of it, then an awareness is definitely born within. And this awareness brings an amazing result. As soon as this awareness arises, the crowd of thoughts leaves, the crowd of dreams leaves. A new awakening has been established in front of the consciousness in which no thought lasts, the mind becomes completely silent and calm, a silence, a tranquility, a peace will arise. In this peace, in this silence, that ‘which is’ can be known, what is true can be recognized, that which is the life of the souls can be recognised.
In this peace, in this silence, in this awareness, the meaning and gratitude of life will be available. Man reaches out of death, rises above sorrow and pain. And for the first time he gets acquainted with Anand/blissfulness/Esctacy/benediction, the name of that Ananda is Lord. There is a way for everyone to go to that happiness. But no path made by another can work for us.Everyone has to create their own path, the path of self-awareness.
-Osho, Amrit Varsha(Hindi), Chapter #1 Philosophy of Truth #2 Music of Zero
My suggestions:-
The miracle of being a seer (i.e. with the inner eye) is that when you look at the body (with your eyes closed), your seer is becoming stronger. When you look at your thoughts, your seer is even stronger. And when you see the sensations, your seer is stronger again. When you look at your emotions, the seer becomes strong enough to be himself-looking at himself, like a lamp burning in a dark night not only illuminates around him, but also illuminates himself!
But people are just looking at others, they never worry about looking at themselves. Everyone is looking at others- it’s on the shallowest floor — what the other person is doing, what the other person is wearing, how they look. (And I have seen that I am losing such property that can go beyond death, while life has been found only to find such property that can go beyond that death. Everyone is watching — the process of seeing is not something new that has to enter your life. All we have to do is deepen it — away from others and move towards one’s inner feelings, thoughts, and emotions — and finally point to the seer himself.
You can easily laugh at people’s ridiculous things, but have you ever laughed at yourself? Have you ever caught yourself doing something ridiculous? No, you ignore yourself completely — all your seeing is about others, and it’s of no benefit.
Use this energy of observation and awareness to transform your soul. It can give so much joy, it can rain so many blessings that you can’t even imagine in your dreams. It’s a simple process, but once you start using it on your own, it becomes a focus.
Anything can be done to focus!
You all know the observation, so there is no question of learning it, only a question of changing the subject of view. Bring him closer. Look at your body, and you’ll be amazed.
I can move my hand without being a seer, and I can also move it without being a seer. You may not see the difference, but I can see the difference. When I wave the hand with a visionary spirit, there is a gift and beauty, a peace and a silence in it.
You can walk by looking at every step, in it you will not only get all the benefits that walking can give you as an exercise, but also give you the benefit of a very simple meditation. — Osho Dhyanyoga: First and last liberation
Some suggestions from the experience that I have done by taking Osho’s experiments into life while living a worldly life: — Living the worldly life with life to the fullness of life, living life in an authentic form, that is, living with another honesty inside and outside, serving people selflessly without discrimination and being free from all bonds (religious, educational, caste, color etc.) These three have proved to be important catalysts in my life that can help someone to dive deep.
I started as an experiment while brushing on the teeth in the morning, the inner eye opening experiment or the use of awarenessis no longer a means to get the experience of zero state, now the awareness has become a way for me. Maybe you will also find it suitable, otherwise for most people it is the dynamic meditation suggested by Osho. Discovered by the Indian mystic Gorakhnath about 500 years ago and further modified by Osho, there are 110 other meditation techniques that can be used to benefit from and practice in regular life. (This is taken from Osho’s book ‘Preetam Abhiya Nainen Basi’, Chapter #11 ‘My message is, meditation in dubb’.)
