Only an enlightened person can understand correct meaning behind words of Buddha. Try to understand Buddha first- He was most learned person of that time because every facility is available to him at his door step. Due to that deep learning only he was able to raise himself above his own teachers! They become his disciples too-the youngest of those teachers.

Every word of Buddha carry deepest meaning for the unenlightened person who had Satori and moving towards enlightenment. For a normal person living material life it contains some morals only, because we are not dedicatedly engaged in spiritual journey. So any claim that by listening in Pali you could understand better meaning is not correct as per my knowledge. It may help you impress some other person.

If you really wish to understand deepest meaning of what Buddha said, I must suggest to practice awareness meditation and only on attaining enlightenment you would be able to get its deepest meaning.
