What is the difference between functioning consciousness and pure consciousness?
I asked this question to OpenAI at ChatGPT and it’s answer you can check yourself too. It may be slightly different because it keeps updating itself but to me it gave the answer as below:
So there are fields where even OpenAI find it difficult to venture and for a human being it is so easy to experience!
I submitted my comments as below so that next time it could improve the answer for others. “All the people who come to know the answer of ‘Who am I?’ They all experience the same pure consciousness as it is but their ways of expression differs due to culture, society etc. Pure consciousness is infinite, eternal and constant. Normally people experience it when they are deeply involved in their job at hand with totality. In those moments the person enters into timelessness and hence could not notice passage of many hours. These moments are those when the pure consciousness is flowing through the person’s body to get the job done. Usually it happens with craftsman very occasionally. When the pure consciousness is experienced without any outside assistance then it is called as awakening or salvation or Christ or Buddha consciousness.”
I experienced my first no-mind moment during one of of my act (ie experiening pure consciousness) during brushing my teeth in the morning. I was trying to remain aware or conscious of every movement of brush on my teeth (ie attaining functioning consciousness). Going beyond anything is possible after going through it-Osho. I was practicing toremained aware of taste of the toothpaste and soon I fell into no-thought moment. This is my first experience of pure consciousness through practice of functioning consciousness. Once mastered we can apply it even during sex to get ultimate orgasmic experience that may lead to awakening.
Why such orgasmic experience could lead to awakening? It is because you need to try again and again only if it has not reached to climax. Once Mount Everest is conquered by Hillary, then there was no need to climb it again for him because the view is going to remain same from there. It was the incomplete view every time that leads to the subtle urge to climb it again. You got my point!
Every time if anything has remained incomplete then only it is remembered by us for long time till it completes or forever. This happened with Laila-Majanu too, had they got married then there does not arise any eternal story because it is same here too.
So the ultimate orgasmic experience leads us to free from sexual as well as all other desires. This partial desirelessness is a necessary to live a simple life as saints of China used to live. They call it ‘Chop wood, carry water’ life.
As we grow we need to become more efficient so as to earn our bread and butter hence we become robotic. While in our childhood we acted consciously during every act. This is why even the work was relaxing like a play. This awareness that we have lost is needed to be regained or discovered.
The mind is biggest hurdle in our inner journey. It is helpful too but only up to a certain altitude after that it needed to be disconnected from it because then it starts creating more trouble. So just like first stage of rocket engine is left to drop on the Earth so that the satellite can be launched in its orbit, our mind too needs to be dropped in subtle way so that even the mind could not recognise being dropped!
Awareness meditation is of great help in getting this job done.
Osho says “The deep problem is: how to become aware, how not to be unconscious. From where to start? Don’t try to fight with some very deep-rooted habit. You will be defeated. Start with very neutral habits.
For example: you go for a walk; just be aware that you are walking. (Try to Walk with witnessing consciousness).
Awareness meditation is the way worked for me and I tried it first during brushing my teeth in the morning after trying 8–10 meditations over period of 15 years! So there is no need to reinvent the circle for you. May be you too find it suitable otherwise with Dynamic meditation and/or Kundalini in the evening it is suitable for most of the people. There are 110 other meditation techniques discovered by Indian Mystic Gorakhnath about 500years before and further modified by Osho for contemporary people that one can experiment and the suitable one could be practiced in routine life.

Disciples of Jesus left him alone in last minutes but Osho’s disciples remained with him till he left his body willingly after working, till last day, for all of us to get enlightened. Jesus tried hard till last minute, before being caught, to teach meditation to his disciples. As per Saint John’s Gospel:- Jesus used word ‘Sit’ to transfer his meditative energy to them and went on to pray God, but on returning he found them sleeping. He tried two times again but in vain.
Even today Zen people use word ‘Sit’ for meditation in their saying ‘Sit silently, do nothing, season comes and the grass grows by itself green’.
